Tileable Extracting Channel Layout
Main Purpose of the Layout[edit | edit source]
The main purpose of the Tileable Extracting Channel Layout is to provide a high-yield, high-speed approach to using the Extracting Channel. When pursuing the Neophobia achievement, Extracting Channel is the only type of channel you are permitted to use until very late in the game.
Early game[edit | edit source]
In the early game, only the entry-level resonators and destabilizers are available. This early-game version of the Tileable Extracting Channel Layout uses only Entropy Resonators and Industrial Destabilizers.
Each Extracting Channel in this layout extracts three blocks that are each affected by two Industrial Destabilizers and two Entropy Resonators. This layout can be upgraded to a high-efficiency layout as new machines become available.
Empty blocks remain at five positions in this layout:
- A: When a Catalytic Refinery becomes available, position A is the perfect place to put it.
- B: When Underground Silos or Industrial Silos become available, these can be placed at the two B positions.
- C: These positions are not able to reach the blocks being extracted, and could remain empty.
Tileable Extracting Channel Layout can be tiled by rotating it around position A, allowing the middle Entropy Resonators to reach four blocks each. Each pair of layouts can be mirrored across the line between C positions, and repeat such mirroring as desired.
The layout could also be tiled side-to-side by mirroring across position B. However, this would prevent automation later in the game. It may be better to repeat the layout while leaving a gap of one position for future automation.
Tile layout[edit | edit source]
In this example, the lower column shows the original layout by itself. The upper column shows the layout tiled as described above, by first rotating and then mirroring. The four layouts shown in this upper column form a complete unit, which can be copied or mirrored into additional layouts. Note that the two columns are separated from each other by a single empty block. This column of empty spaces will allow for automation in the late game. Also, Auxiliary Pumps have been upgraded to Pump Stations.
Upgrade Half of the Destabilizers[edit | edit source]
The next step in the process sees half of the Industrial Destabilizers upgraded to Hell Gem Destabilizers.
Add Silos and Replace the Remaining Destabilizers[edit | edit source]
Adding Industrial Silos is the next step, along with replacing the remaining Industrial Destabilizers with Hell Gem Injectors. In the accompanying screenshot the Pump Stations have been removed to make the layout easier to view.
Upgrade Resonators and Coolers[edit | edit source]
The final steps are to upgrade half of the Entropy Resonators to Entropy Resonator IIs, upgrade the other Entropy Resonators to Entropy Capacitors, and upgrade the Channel Coolers to Active Channel Coolers. Finally, add a Catalytic Refinery in the empty position in the row of resonators.
As before, the Pump Stations have been removed from the illustration above to make it easier to see all the components. Refer to the earlier illustrations to see where they belong in this layout.
Here is the final, complete layout.
This final version of the layout should take you to the end of the achievement.
A limitation of this layout is that it does not provide any way for an Industrial Silo to reach the Catalytic Refinery, which means that the refinery will have to be refueled by hand. However, refineries have a very long refuel recycle, and should not require too many clicks when compared to the silos.
